She, A Rose

Currently Unproduced
An excerpt from She, A Rose was published in The Paragon Journal in 2019.

Phoebe rides home in silence from the hospital with cracked ribs and the parents of her best friend. Sophie fights for her life. Jacob struggles to be seen and come out to his parents, his mom Amy struggles with her own internalized transphobia. Barges and ghosts, knives, photo albums, and blood in the streets.

Picture
"This pervasive idea that trans women deserve violence needs to be abolished. It’s a socially sanctioned practice of blaming the victim. We must begin blaming our culture, which stigmatizes, demeans and strips trans women of their humanity."
- Janet Mock
